Alternatives for Diabetes. Type 2 increases risk for heart disease, kidney failure, high blood pressure, blindness, and amputations. Most Type II diabetics could control their blood sugar with diet and exercise, but they take pills instead. Pills are not a substitute for eating well, and they increase the cardiovascular risk. Diabetic complications are minimized by a low fat, low sugar diet + exercise.Diabetic symptoms include excessive hunger, thirst, urination, weakness, obesity, boils, blurred vision, and dry mouth. Diabetes mellitus is a leading killer in the U.S. Many think it’s caused by a lack of insulin, but studies show adult-onset diabetics have insulin, but it has stopped being effective. In many cases this is due to a high fat diet. Normal athletes tested diabetic after eating a high fat diet for three days. Pritikin’s low fat and exercise program got 12 of 17 diabetics off insulin (two others cut the dosage in half). Since then, Dr. Anderson at Univ. of Kentucky and others have published similar studies to support this. Diabetes can result from stress, obesity, pregnancy. Drugs can cause diabetes, including oral contraceptives, steroids (prednisone) and thiazide diuretics. A diet high in sugar and white flour can lead to diabetes for some. • Eat smaller meals and chew the food thoroughly. Do not eat late in the evening. Overeating increases diabetic problems. • Vegetable broths and fresh fruit are nourishing. A high-carbohydrate, high-fiber diet will reduce the need for insulin. A low-fiber diet makes diabetes worse. • Onions and green beans appear to lower blood sugar. A diet high in raw food is also helpful. One individual dropped his insulin dosage from 60 to 15 units per day by increasing his raw food intake.• Don’t eat combinations of milk and sugar. Coffee raises the blood sugar levels. A fat-free diet lowers blood sugar. • Eat your meals at regular times, and do not be in a rush to swallow the food. The quicker you eat, the higher the blood sugar goes. • Garlic can help to lower blood sugar. • Take normal but not large amounts of B vitamins. • Exercise improves circulation and lowers sugar.. • Huckleberry helps promote insulin production. Cedar berries help the pancreas. Other helpful herbs include black walnut, echinacea, burdock, buchu, dandelion root, and uva ursi. • In case of a hyperglycemia attack, go to an emergency room. You may need fluids, electrolytes, and possibly insulin.• If your child has diabetes, his teacher should know the warning signs of high and low blood sugar. • Take good care of your feet, for they can become more easily infected than those of non-diabetics. • Good diabetic control and proper diet is also important to avoid early loss of vision. My favorite book and DVD to help you live without the need of medical care--Best DVD, Book for Self-help for low cost.
