When people get sick and go into the hospital, one of the first things done for them is to start intravenous fluids. If they would drink water and eat less at home, they might avoid the hospital.

The body is two-thirds to three-fourths water. Even our bones are 30% water, but 80% of our kidneys and brain is water. If it weren’t for amazing work done in the kidneys, we could not survive.

Data adjusted for smoking, hypertension, and weight suggest those who drink less than two glasses (a pint) of water a day have two-and-a-half times the risk of fatal coronary heart disease, compared to those who drink five glasses (eight ounces) of water (not soda) each day.

Water is essential to every action and reaction in the body. Consider these benefits of water—

·        Fluid bathes our eyes and transmits sound in our ears.

·        Fluid lubricates the food helping us to swallow it.

·        Fluid enzymes penetrate the food for digestion.

·        Fluid softens the stool for elimination.

·        Fluid maintains the blood consistency and circulation.

·        Fluid carries the nutrients and oxygen to the cells.

·        Fluid is essential to the filtration in the kidneys.

·        Fluid helps moisten the air so the lungs don’t dry out.

·        Fluid cushions the joints for flexibility.

·        Fluid is essential for temperature control.

Some people think drinking water works their kidneys. But think of it as washing the dishes, the more water you use, the easier it is to get them clean; our cells want a bath!

Pure soft water is best. Chlorine and fluoride are problems. Hard water has calcium; it hardens arteries, and can cause kidney stones. Hot water heaters get plugged with calcium from water, so the hot water tap is healthier, just let the water cool if you don't want hot!
